What kind of hoop is for me?
To learn how to hula hoop, choose a bigger and heavier hoop that spins slower, giving you more time to connect with it. If you are new, start with a hoop no smaller than 38 inches in outer diameter. Most hoops are made with either PolyPro or HDPE plastic. Polypro hoops are lighter and better for off-body tricks using your hands or any trick that requires fast movement like wedgies and breaks. HDPE is a more durable plastic and is better for those who are looking to learn on-body tricks such as leg hooping, chest hooping, and duck-outs. Is your hoop slipping? You can choose add-ons like tape, wax, or sand it down with fine-grit sandpaper to improve the grip!
