SpinCo X Philly Shuffle Syndicate Community Workshop + Flow Jam (LIVE DJS!!)

This is a combined event, with a beginner shuffle and hoop workshop to kick us off, followed by a casual skill share and shuffle jam for movement artists of all ages and backgrounds.

Workshop Details

To kick us off, join SpinCo volunteer and dance instructor Kailah for an energizing and fun shuffle dance workshop designed to help you build connections and explore the healing power of movement. Whether you're new to shuffling or looking to refine your skills, this session is all about letting go, making friends, and discovering how dance can be a powerful tool for both mental and physical well-being. We'll cover basic shuffle steps like the Charleston, Running Man, and T-Step, and learn a choreographed routine. Expect a warm, welcoming environment where you can express yourself, move to the beat, and leave feeling empowered.

Class length will be between 60-90 minutes with the following schedule:

• 2:00 - 2:10 Get to know each other and learn about the history of shuffle dance
• 2:10 - 2:30 Warm up and choreography introduction (we will learn a routine to "Party Rock Anthem" (Everyday I’m Shufflin') by LMFAO)
• 2:30 - 3:15 Practice dance!
• 3:15 - 3:45 Continue to practice and perform dance as a group, opportunity to take video
• 3:45 - 4:00 Take time to reflect and cool down before joining in on the shuffle jam
• 4:00 - 6:00 Shuffle jam!

What to Bring

Bring your props, clothes comfortable to flow in, and water. Donations are encouraged, but you will not be turned away for lack of funds. You can donate by purchasing a ticket, or via venmo @spinco or PayPal. All donations go directly towards workshop instructor and live DJs.

You are welcome to bring tripods and camera equipment for photo/video. We sometimes will take a group photo! Please ask for consent if you are posting photos or videos of others, and whenever possible, tag us @spincoalition!

Feel free to bring snacks and stay hydrated by BYO water bottle.

Note: There are no public restrooms within walking distance. We can use the buddy system for nature use, or do group carpools into Brewerytown if needed!

How to Get Here

We will be hosting this spin jam in East Fairmount Park, at the intersection of Kelly Drive and Fountain Green Drive. There is plenty of street parking (do not park on grass)

Taking SEPTA? This is easily accessible by public transportation. Take SEPTA bus #32 to 33rd and Oxford Streets. You can also take bus #48 or #49 (Cecil & 29th stop) Get off the bus, and enter Fairmount Park, walking up Reservoir drive for about 1/2 a mile. The reservoir should be on your right. You can also take bus #61 to Ridge Ave and Daulphin Street and walk into the park on Daulphin street, making a left onto Reservoir Drive. If you do this, the reservoir is on your left and the total route is around 1 mile.
