Danny is traveling to Philly to teach groundwork and legwork with contact staff. Students will gain the foundations of learning how to incorporate floorwork into their contact staff flow.
This is an open class for all levels. Danny will go over his novel framework for legwork and groundwork, some examples can be found on his Instagram video below. Yoga mats and small pillows are highly encouraged. Students should expect to walk away with a better understanding of the pathways possible from the ground, as well as transitions from upper to lower body (level changes). Class will begin with a stretch and warm up to ensure students are prepared for groundwork.
About Your Instructor
Danny is a well know DC performer who is popular for his unique combination of dance and prop manipulation. He has been spinning contact staff since 2013, and has since also delved into rope dart, poi, hoops, fans and contact juggling. Focusing on his prop(s) as an extension of his own body, Danny continues to create fun and innovative new moves.
When to Arrive
Please arrive 5 minutes before class time in order to get acquainted with the space and ready for class to begin on time. The studio is located on the fourth floor so you will need to take the freight elevator up.
How to Get There/Parking
The Loom is located at 3245 Amber Street. The cross street is Westmoreland. Enter the studio by walking up the stairs and entering the code that will be emailed to you once you purchase tickets. From there, walk down the hallway and to the left to press a button for the freight elevator. You may park along the street for free, we recommend parking on Amber street rather than Westmoreland. You can also take the Market Frankford Line east to Allegheny, the Loom is a 10 minute walk from that SEPTA stop.
What to Wear
Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Dress in layers and you may want to wear long sleeves/pants as we will be on the floor for most of class doing groundwork. There is a restroom onsite.
What to Bring?
- A water bottle
- Contact staff or staves
- Long sleeve shirts and pants, preferable close to skin for good contact staff grip
- Yoga mat/small pillow as we will be on the hardwood floor
Workshop will be held at The Loom
Home of Cotton Candy Circus Arts, Setu Tribe, and Happy Is
The Loom is an artist warehouse. The studio that we will be in is home to performance troupes and groups Cotton Candy Circus Arts, Setu Tribe, and Happy Is.
Their studio is a beautiful, windowed, column-free space with hardwood floors and mirrors. Bring warm clothes though, as the warehouse may not be fully heated!
Free open spin jam to follow the workshop! Free for attendees, $5 for non-students
